Remember this for Tuesday… President Obama has had numerous failures while in office. I want to pick two for people to think about as they head toward the polls this coming Tuesday. The “stimulus” bill, I am sure anyone who follows politics will remember this tiny tidbit. It was supposed to save us from economic ruin. Put us back on the course of prosperity. Stop the landslide of American workers heading to the unemployment line. Now in theory, it was a novel idea, in practical terms, a disaster. Not in cost, which was $831 BILLION, YES BILLION, the disaster was, in content. Let me set the tone, at this point, 2009, American workers had been sent to the unemployment line, 5 million times. That’s right, 5 million American workers were unemployed. The economy was contracting at a rate of 8.9%, the sharpest decline in more than half a century.. 50 YEARS!!!!! The bill was passed and some Obama supporters would say it was a victory for the Obama administration. The devil is in the detail my friends… Not one Republican in the House voted for it and 3 Republican Senators gave their yes vote. $308 BILLION dollars of this bill was earmarked as discretionary spending. We all know what that means, money to be spent however the hell we want to spend it. “Mad Cash” as my wife would say. $48 Billion went to the Department of Transportation for infrastructure improvements. All I can say is that as a result, I am still paying more tolls than ever, gas prices are strangling America and traffic jambs are epic. Give me $48 billion and we all we be flying to work!!! Do the math, that leaves $260 Billion for a rainy day fund.. So here are just a few highlights of how that money was spent.. “Green Carts”. Vehicles, if you can call them that, which are powered by batteries. Top speed, 20-25 miles an hour.. Try your commute in one of these… Have you seen any? Exactly my point.. $98 Billion is being spent for the Coast Guard for a new ice-breaking ship. Now, the US Coast Guard already has 3 ice-breaking vessel’s. The head of the Coast Guard testified before a House panel that because Russia, Germany, China, Sweden and Canada were all investing, maintaining and expanding their national ice-breaking capacity, that we should to. So he received $98 Billion to do just that!!! Over $3 Billion dollars was earmarked for the “clean coal” initiative. Ok, just sayin, how many of you have a coal furnace in your house? A renowned climatologist said that $3 Billion dollars is only a fraction of what is needed and at this point, in its genesis, clean coal energy is years away. Once again, give me $3 Billion dollars and I can assure you we would tap America’s natural resources which would lead to job growth and lower energy costs. I can go on and on but here are my last 2 points on discretionary spending, $150 million will be spent for parking improvements at a Little League facility in Cidra, Puerto Rico, and $6 million for a “snowmaking and maintenance facility” at Spirit Mountain ski area in Duluth, Minnesota. Need I say more? I hope you see my point. The “stimulus package” did not stimulate anything but pure political drama. For President Obama, it was a catastrophic victory. The second, can I even say just second, failure was health care reform. A mistake, beginning to end. The president spent 14 months getting this bill passed. During those 14 months, he was disconnected with the American people who were losing jobs and an economy teetering on the second coming of “The Great Depression”. The final bill was 2,000 pages. 2,000 pages of information that was never explained to the American people. My own personal health care has risen over 50% in the last 2 years. The American people would have had to place a lot of trust in a package such as this. People feared that it would raise premiums, limit ones autonomy for health care and make a system fraught with over-spending and mismanagement even worse. At this point in American history, movements were on the rise. The tea party movement, town hall protests and occupy Wall Street. This was not an America united under a leader. This was a country divided by political blunders and poor judgement. Mr. Obama even remarked to Majority Leader Harry Reid that he had “a gift”. He also suggested to House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor that he had a special ability to sway the American people. It’s one think to think and act like a slugger, it’s another to think and act like a slugger and strike out most of the time. In the end, Mr. Obama had the confidence without the full capability. He has surrounded himself with people who have drank the cool-aid and who will not second guess their leader. A leader that kept to his agenda even in the wake of destruction. He should have taken a lesson from his democratic cheer leader and former president Bill Clinton. When Clinton’s 1994 health care reform fell flat on it’s face, and Republicans took control of congress, he hit the re-set button and emerged with a new agenda. One that lead to a second term as president. I know I said two blunders and I could write thousands of pages of mistakes made by this administration, so I will add just one more major economic catastrophe. Let’s call is Solyndra. Mr. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden got a nice photo op. They got to make speeches about being “green.” But then Solyndra went bankrupt. Americans lost jobs and taxpayers got stuck with the bill. The amount of that bill, $535 million dollars. The president pushed for a government backed loan of $535 million dollars against the objections of federal budget analysts. Solyndra declared bankruptcy in 2012, just 3 years after receiving the government backed loan. Just so you know, this was also part of the 2009 stimulus package and was part of the first $18 billion dollars handed out and guaranteed by the American taxpayers. Hey America, would you let Mr.Obama manage your finances again? I hope not!
So on Tuesday, since Mr. Obama will not hit the reset button and start over, let us do it for him and elect Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States.
